August 27,1890: Man Ray was born with the name Emmanuel Radnitsky in Philadelphia, PA
1897: Moved with his family to Brooklyn, NY
1908: Graduated from high school and to his parents' dismay, declined a Columbia University scholarship offer for architecture
1912: The Radnitsky family changed their last name ot Ray, and Emmanuel altered his first name to suit. From that time forward, he answered only to Man Ray and signed his work as such or with the initials MR
1913: Man Ray sells his first painting. He went to the Armory Show and discovered the work of Marcel Duchamp. He met and married the poetess Adon Lacroix.
1915: He meets Duchamp for the first time and had his first exhibition at the Daniels Gallery of thiry paintings and drawings
1921: He moved to Paris with Duchamp to keep working and is introduced to the dadaists
1922-24: Man Ray enjoyed great success as a photographer as well as painter/object-maker.
1925-26: Participated in a Surrealist exhibition at the Gallery Pierre and then with El Lissitsky and Mondrian in Munich. Exhibted in the opening of the Galerie Surrealiste
1927: He returned to New York for an exhibition in the Daniels Gallery but quickly returns to Paris
1930-40: Continued working and exhibiting in various dadaist and surrealist shows across Europe as well as back in New York City.
1940: Man Ray left Paris and arrived in Hollywood where he met Juliet Browner and takes part in a Surrealism exhibition in Mexico
1943-46: Had various one man shows across California and in New York
1947: He took part in the 58th annual painting and sculpture exhibition in Chicago, quickly visited Paris with Juliet and then returned to the states.
1948-50: Man Ray took part in gallery shows at Yale Art Gallery, Modern Institute of Art in Beverly Hills, and Bill Copely's Gallery in Beverly Hills
1951: Went back to New York and takes part in an exhibition on Abstract painting and sculpture then returned to Paris with Juliet
1952-75: Man Ray participated in over 30 one man shows and exhibitions throughout Europe
November 18, 1976: Man Ray died in Paris, he had no children and left his estate to Juliet
