Pronouncing Man Ray

My art school teacher used to pronouce it "MOHN Ray," which I imagine is correct, but I'm afraid I might feel like a weenie saying it.

What do you all think? Should I start saying MOHN Ray, or continue to (most likely) mispronounce it "Man" as in "man."

I've only ever heard it as 'man'. How did your teacher get 'mon' out of 'man'? British, French ...maybe?

I'd guess, since the bloke was American, it was pronouced 'man'. Now if anyone can dig up the source for his name...like...why did he call himself 'Man Ray'...I'd be your pal for a week!

      Here's the scoop, Robowan:

Man Ray was born in Brooklyn, NY as Emmanuel Radinski and changed his name at the age of 15 to get away from persecution because of his obvious Russian-Jewish heritage.

Absolutely! Maybe longer than a week, even. I never knew it was a mutation of his real name, how clever that little 15 year old was! Thanks.
